Western Cape Trip

The West Coast’s rugged beauty lingers long after you leave. North of Cape Town, towns fade into vast, open landscapes, shaped by the icy Benguela Current and steady winds—a haven for solitude seekers and water sports enthusiasts alike. Life here is simple yet rich, with fresh seafood and warm, no-nonsense hospitality.

Its charm unfolds gradually—stark yet captivating—while Langebaan Lagoon shimmers in shifting blues and turquoise. Our home sits at the water’s edge, where mornings begin with birds of prey gliding on the thermals. By midday, the sun warms the lagoon for a leisurely swim, followed by lunch at a seaside restaurant with breathtaking views. As the day winds down, the breeze invites a sunset kiteboarding session or a peaceful paddle across glassy waters.

Next door, the West Coast National Park offers a chance to spot ostriches, eland, mountain zebras, and the rare bat-eared fox, alongside Cape grey mongooses and roaming tortoises.

In spring, the landscape bursts into a spectacular display of wildflowers, one of the Cape’s most breathtaking sights.

We love the Westcoast and especially our small town Langebaan and there are endless things to do!!

Here are a few of our favorite places to explore, sip and dine…

Within a short walk:

  • Head toward the lagoon, an easy five minute walk to Shark Bay Shack for a coffee or ‘Rooibos’ Cappuccino and enjoy the views of the lagoon from the deck.
  • Take a walk toward Langebaan along the path next to the lagoon for a breakfast at Wind Town.
  • Other restaurants close by are RocXiBeach (best cocktail list in town!) and Pearly’s.
  • Restaurants perfect for sundowners with a view are Marcs Beach Bar, Kokomo Beach Bar and Restaurant and Friday Island.
  • A unique West-Coast dining experience is the Strandloper. This restaurant is seasonal, so phone ahead to make bookings.
